Community Activism
By “community activism” we mean “an activity designed to help, serve and enhance the community.”
There are so many individuals who make a difference, who have a desire to connect with people in their neighbourhood and grow a sense of shared belonging and make a huge difference, but every now and then we combine these human resources and head into our communities together.
When this happens we combine our voice, willpower and resources and serve in strategic ways that can be galvanizing forces for change. Through these projects and events we create what’s called social capital, a bonding and strength within the community which leads to a report that allows us to be a voice of Hope in our city like never before.
At mosaic We love to serve those around us; in fact we believe we are most alive when helping others. So here are a few samples of our Community Activism:
- Lets Get Growing- Taurangas first large scale community Garden
- Matarangi- an after school education program; combining the arts, heritage and family
- Party in the Park (December) a free christmas event for the local mount community.
- Full Stop the weekly food van that goes through the local streets giving out food to children and families.
- The Makeover Project- big projects we do to fix up peoples homes, build new facilities in our city and create opportunity for our city to serve each other
- Mosaic Food Bank collected food resources for distribution by you to those that you know in need..
- Big Saturday a mid year event where we head out into our community and partner with local groups to help them with whatever we need.
