What to Expect at Mosaic

We know what it’s like to try anything for the first time – the anxiety, the questions, the curiosity. So we’ve come up with some of the questions people have before visiting a church community. How did we come up with this list? We all started off as first-time guests, too!

1. What kind of Church is this?
Mount Mosaic is an inter-generational, contemporary church designed to serve people no matter where they are on their journey. It’s a safe place for people who are looking for answers to their spiritual questions, and simply want to check out following Jesus without anyone pressuring them. It’s also a place where those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ can learn and be encouraged in their spiritual growth.

2. What should I wear?
Whatever you would wear when visiting your friends, feel free to leave the suit and tie at home!

3. How long will each gathering last?
We start at 5pm and are always done the normal things (music, teaching) by 6:30, however there is always coffee and plenty of time to catch up after this if you want.

4. What will the Gathering be like?
Each Gathering begins with music led by a full band. The singing, or praise and worship as we call it, is an expression of our love for God. You do not need to join in if you don’t want to. Just like a rugby or netball match – if you don’t know the songs, you enjoy the moment and just watch the game.

That’s what you can do in our church. No problem. The music style is home-grown with many of the songs being written in house. After 30 minutes or so of music and reflection, one of the staff will give a talk about life, God and the journey we are all on.

If you happen to visit on the first Sunday of the month we take time to reflect on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ by observing ‘Communion’ (known elsewhere as ‘The Lord’s Supper’ or ‘Mass’). During this time plates of bread and small cups of grape juice are available. The broken bread and the juice remind us of the broken body of Christ and the blood He shed on the Cross to make it possible for humanity to be reconciled with God. If you are not yet a follower of Jesus you can feel free to join in or just watch, no problem.  This part of the gathering concludes with notices about up and coming events, and other house keeping matters.

Following this there is an opportunity to get together over coffee and meet people or catch up with friends. Please introduce yourself to someone at the cafe or the people around you.

5. Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?
At Mosaic you can rest assured you will never be put on the spot, never singled-out, and never embarrassed. Further, if you are a guest, you are encouraged to not feel obligated to participate in the offering. Just pass the collection bucket on. Our hope is that you will let the gathering be our gift to you! You don’t have to sign anything, or register your attendance in any way if you don’t want to (unless you place your child in our children’s ministry – this is for safety & security reasons).

6. What about my kids – do they sit with me, or is there something going on for them?
Our children’s gathering provides an exciting, quality experience for your child simultaneously with the adult gathering. This allows you to maximise your experience at Mosaic while your child is receiving high-levels of care and attention in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. The curriculum is designed to be both fun and educational. All ages are catered for and we feed your children dinner while they are here:
Crèche – Birth to 2 years. We have a Crèche pace that is upstairs and looks over the main hall so that parents can care for their little ones, feed them, change them and watch them play while still listening and watching what’s going on.
Sand Pit – Age 2 to 4.
Something – Age 5-10
Intermediates – Year 7 & 8.

7. When should I come along?
Sunday afternoon – 5.00 pm.

8. How do I get there and where do I park?
Mosaic’s facility is located on 37 Newton St in Mount Maunganui. This street is accessible from both Hull Rd and Hewletts Rd so shouldn’t be too hard to find. Parking is available on the street and in our car park if you get there early enough.

9. If I eventually stick around Mosaic, do you have small groups that I can be part of?
We provide a range of small group options that provide opportunities to meet people, be inspired in our journey and serve those around you together.
