Week 1
This week reading through the first chapters of Genesis and Matthew I am reminded about all my failed attempts to read the Bible in a year. These early passages in the New and Old testament I am very familiar with, not so much the ones right in the middle.
However it almost makes me love them more, Genesis is action packed, it’s filled with great stories, heroes, and weird things. I love reading these passages having them challenge my own faith. The God of Genesis, the creator, the victor, the provider, and present, the blesser, promiser, deliverer, and punisher is the same God we follow.
Genesis causes me to pray bigger prayers, expect bigger things, and draw closer to God.
I love how intimate Enoch and Noah were with the Creator and Father. Abraham gives me hope that God can do great things through me in-spite of my being messed up and messing up regularly.
When you are reading this week, let the stories become real. Don’t dismiss them as ethereal fairy tales, treat them as God’s living story through humanity. highlight the odd things that stick out to you, confuse you and encourage you. Pray for greater understanding and revelation and keep reading.
Have a good week reading.
